Tell us about your piece and how it represents the Country that you are from?
I was so excited about this project, because I had a chance to represent my country. Currently, I live in the US, but I was born and raised in Ukraine. That is why I chose to represent my motherland Ukraine 🇺🇦 First I planed to create Ukrainian map with beautiful landscapes but then I stopped myself, because Ukraine has a very difficult war time now. “Aggressor country” took away parts of my country and we still battle for saving our Ukrainian territory and peace. So creating map would be very painful for me. That is why I decided to change my mind and create something cheerful and colorful. I chose the colors of our flag. The golden yellow symbolizes fields of wheat and the blue represents the sky, mountains, and streams of Ukraine. In my case I created abstract yellow sun on blue sky and named this piece “Peaceful Sky Overhead”.
What was the most challenging part of the brief?
With such an open brief it took me a while to decide what to actually make, my short list had 10 idea’s on!
What part of the brief did you enjoy the most?
Once I had finally committed to an idea it was great to have total freedom over what I would produce.
How did you enjoy working with Excel Blades?
I’ll be honest, I was expecting to dislike the handles and blades because in my extensive research I have always been disappointed with everything other than what I already use but I’m happy to admit that I enjoyed the K18 handle, it was comfortable to hold and the blades performed really well.
