Thinking positive thoughts: Our South African Garden: The King and the Sugarbird
Tell us about your piece and how it represents the Country that you are from?
I chose a botanical theme with our unique fynbos fauna and flora and with this I wanted to present something positive as we are currently in a very negative political and economic situation. My country and the Cape of Good Hope is known for its particular fauna and flora called fynbos. It is indigenous to the area and some species you only get in Cape Town. The bird called the Cape Town Sugarbird I chose because I live here and the King Protea is our national flower..
What was the most challenging part of the brief?
Deciding on what to present of course is always challenging, but often leads one into a new direction.
What part of the brief did you enjoy the most?
I enjoyed the entire brief from start to finish. I am continuing in this theme of our indigenous fauna and flora. The tools were great to work with and made the job even more enjoyable.
How did you enjoy working with Excel Blades?
The knives are very light and easy to handle. The blades were sharp and lasted longer than most other blades. I am still working with the knife because I find it so much lighter than my previous ones. The blades have been used up but I am most certainly getting more!
