Tell us a little about your piece?
I wanted to make a simple and minimalist piece about the beauty of a breaking wave by layering and cutting paper to create three dimensions. I used a variety of techniques to give the work the different textures of the parts of the wave including painting with ink, weaving and cutting.
What was the most challenging part of the brief?
The colours of the paper were very dark for me and the weight very light. I had made a few models of my piece with my own paper but my ideas did not translate easily into the paper we were sent.
What part of the collaboration did you enjoy the most?
As always with the Paper Artist Collective it’s wonderful to see all the different interpretations of the same theme.
How did you enjoy working with the paper?
I had to find ways to work around the dark colours and how lightweight the paper was. I used ink to create lighter colours and layered the paper to create a more sturdy structure.
