Zindagi Ke Safar Mein

Satyam Shivam Sundaram

Zindagi Ki Yahi Reet Hai

Inku’s favourite music to listen to when he creates his art is music from Hindi movies of the golden era of 1960’s, 70’s and early 80’s. He loves Kishore Kumar and Lata Mangeshkar and therefore selected three Hindi movie songs featuring these artists, drawing the words into calligraphy patterns as he listened to the songs. He responded to the mood of the words, the tempo and energy of the music and sculpted his calligraphy accordingly. The songs selected by Inku are all set to the classical Indian ‘Kaharva Taal’, which is set to 8 beats in two divisions, dovetailing beautifully with the 16 panel origami compositions created by Vijay. The curator acted like a bridge between the Delhi based calligrapher and the Mumbai based origami artist, making sure the geometric shapes generated by Vijay paired well with the mood of the music pieces selected by Inku. With the effect of the backlighting adding to the aura of these musical mandalas, three gems of popular Hindi music have been transformed into visuals worth meditating on.
