June 'Proud'
Tell us a little about your piece?
“Proud” is a piece that represents the colors, hope and uniqueness that are part of the LGBT Pride Month.
This piece features hand painted papers, which have been carefully arranged to display continuous color gradients.
“We are all full of color, let them shine through by being unapologetically you”.
What was the most challenging part of the brief?
Pride Month is a festivity that is very close to my heart, that is why it was difficult for me to summarize what it means in only one image.
I decided to focus on a portrait of a non-binary or gender nonconforming person in a hopeful and positive light, making emphasis on Pride Month as a personal and individual moment for growth, rather than a lover’s festivity.
What part of the collaboration did you enjoy the most?
It has been a long time since I wanted to play with layers of hand colored paper, and I couldn’t have thought of a better occasion than in celebration of Pride Month.
For me, the watercolors used in this piece are a more abstract representation of the rainbow flag.
