Tell us a little bit about yourself?
When I was a child, people asked me what job I wanted to have if I was a grown-up; my answer was an artist. For many years I was engaged in the search of my own art style. I tried many different techniques and materials. I moved from classic paintings to abstract paper sculptures. After experimenting with many different types of art, even while working as a graphic artist as my day job, I developed an affinity for representing physical landscapes with abstract and contemporary qualities
Tell us a little bit about your interpretation of Paper Passion?
Six years ago I found my passion in paper art. I began to make experiments with tons of paper and understood that paper now is my canvas. Paper is a wonderful material with which you can create an unlimited number of stunning textures and designs. It blends amazingly with other materials. It is extremely flexible and has endless ways and techniques of manipulating it. Paper gives me the opportunity to work more with my hands. Different paper types and textures provide a tactile sensation and artistic innovation. I create very diverse forms and give free rein to my imagination. In addition to the forms, my pieces are also characterized by their creative and original sets, using very creative techniques. I never know what the finished product is going to be. Instead, I let the cutting be dictated by my imagination, feelings, and ideas.
Tell us a little about your piece?
First of all, the most important resource of my inspiration is nature. The power and beauty of nature is endless. It gives us so much. Seeing how our beautiful planet is increasingly polluted and mistreated by the waste discarded by humans has awakened my environmental activism. The impacts of global warming are being felt across the globe. This project is dedicated to tropical coral reefs, which are the most diverse marine ecosystems on earth. Yet today, coral reefs are dying at an alarming rate all around the globe.
My piece was created with a message to the viewers to bring their attention to global warming and pollution. Each of us can prevent it. We only have one planet, and we have to make sure that future generations will be able to enjoy it as much as we do.
What was the most challenging part of the brief?
The biggest difficulty was to cover the finished delicate cut layers of paper with right amount of paint with the help of airbrush without any mistakes, as they could not be corrected. It was very responsible and challenging part, but I coped with it on the first try.
What part of the brief did you enjoy the most?
I love to work with white paper. I really enjoyed cutting out the delicate coral elements, assembling all layers and creating a 3D effect. It was so satisfying to see it all come to life and it was fun adding extra color to intensify the vibration of the textures.
How did you enjoy working with Munken and Arctic Volume?
I've wanted to try this paper for a long time. My dream came true. It is a pleasure to work with thick paper of the highest quality. It cuts easily and keeps its shape.
