Tell us a little bit about yourself?
I am originally from The Netherlands and have been based in London for the past 7 years. My work spans across 2D illustrations to 3D props and large scale filmsets. Having grown up learning about the greats like Vincent van Gogh and Piet Mondrian, I am obsessed with everything "colour", and am inspired to create fun & playful projects to a high attention to detail.
Tell us a little bit about your interpretation of Paper Passion?
We got asked to make something out of just white paper, for something we're really passionate about. I love colour, so I wanted to add a cheeky dash of paint to the white blank canvas, and create a fun and playful piece. I am extremely passionate about my work and love being creative, so the link was easily made: Art supplies with a touch of colour, that brings the white paper to life!
Tell us a little about your piece?
I get weirdly very happy and immensely satisfied whenever I spot Red, Yellow and Blue objects spontaneously in the wild: eg 3 cars perfectly lined up behind each other. There's something really raw about the Primary colours, and something very 'made by humans'. It's like leaving a mark on the world to show that humankind was there. It's an instant hit of 'design' that Mondrian would be proud of. This series is essentially a love letter to the truest forms of colour, and the endless possibilities you could mix with them. Blank canvas no more!
What was the most challenging part of the brief?
I made 6 different sets of a range of different art supplies inspired props that were made out of paper, and Photographer Nick Dunne and I really wanted to shoot them all! It was challenging to finish all 6 sets in time for the deadline - and then to choose our favourite.
Oh... and also not to get any smudges or fingerprints on the pristine white paper.
What part of the brief did you enjoy the most?
The fact that we were allowed to add something to the paper, and it didn't have to be just plain white. It was very satisfying to play around with paint and actually make a mess for once... a much more carefree way of working!
How did you enjoy working with Munken and Arctic Volume?
The paper was very fine and super silky smooth, so cut very easily, which is always great!
I also loved reading through their branded sample booklet showing how they designed the identity. Big compliments to the graphics team behind that one!
