Purple 270gsm

Tell us a little about your piece?

My piece is based of the rice terraces that can be found in the Philippines. The colour definitely inspired me because it reminds me of Ube (Purple Yam), which we use in a lot of Filipino desserts. I wanted to play with that idea, seeing the representation of both the terraces and an opened jar of Ube jam, and how they harmonise together.

What was the most challenging part of the brief?

The most challenging part of this project was working with the colour. Sometimes the pencil marks I make are harder to see and cut. For the paper that I do, precision is very important especially when layering the sheets together.

What part of the brief did you enjoy the most?

I liked going outside of my comfort zone to work on a piece with coloured paper. It was interesting because I mainly work with white paper so it definitely was a different experience. I also like the colour selection of Colorplan and will definitely see how I can further push myself in making colourful artworks in the future!
