Pattern 1 & Pattern 2
Tell us a little about your piece?
I wanted to explore organic definitions of "Pattern" without any mathematical precision to the placement of the objects - in this case paper threads and paper feathers. Both pieces were assembled freehand.
What was the most challenging part of the brief?
The most challenging part was deciding what I interpreted "Pattern" to mean. I knew I didn't want anything mathematically accurate since that seems to be what first springs to mind. I wanted to explore organic patterns created with handcut paper to create an overall effect.
What part of the collaboration did you enjoy the most?
I loved the freedom of this collaboration. It was so open I felt there was so much I could do with it. Obviously I liked it so much I made two pieces!
How did you enjoy working with Excel Blades, tools?
The products from Excel Blades were fantastic. I used the various blades for cutting all the pieces in Pattern 1. They cut very cleanly. For Pattern 2 I mostly used the tweezers to position the feathers but I also used the blades when I ran out of paper feathers.
