Tell us a little about your piece?

I've had the idea of combining paper cutting with quilling for a while now, this collaboration was the perfect chance to try it out. The pattern is handcut into the vertical surface of the on-edge paper, which allows for shadows to become an integral component of the work.

What was the most challenging part of the brief?

The brief was so broad which made difficult to decide which direction to go in. I ultimately went with a geometric pattern since that would create the most striking shadows. The most challenging part was documenting the finished work, trying to work with the light to get the shadows in the right position.

What part of the collaboration did you enjoy the most?

Before deciding on the final pattern to use, I enjoyed playing around with different geometric patterns to see what shadows they cast, which allowed me to practice my paper cutting skills.

How did you enjoy working with Excel Blades, tools?

Working with Excel blades and tools is always a pleasure. I use their knives and tweezers all the time. I don't have to change blades as often when using Excel Blades; unlike some other blade brands whose blade tips break off after a few cuts, their #11 and #24 blades stay sharper for longer.
