The Unbearable Being of Lightness

Tell us a little about your piece?

A combination of origami and paper cutting, this piece plays on the title of Milan Kundera's novel, "The Unbearable Lightness of Being". The cut pattern on the origami head (the "being") reveals the unbearable light inside.

What was the most challenging part of the brief?

Although the Oxford definition used in the brief refers to a "repeated decorative design", I preferred to use a random pattern instead. While it is not repeated, it is still a cohesive pattern as a whole, representing the spreading of the rays of light.

What part of the collaboration did you enjoy the most?

The freedom to "play" without a lot of restrictions.

How did you enjoy working with Excel Blades, tools?

The cushion grip made using the knife much easier than the hard grips I had originally been using. And a cap that is both easy to remove but doesn't fall off made for a much safer workspace.
