Botanical Mandala
Tell us a little about your piece?
I usually work with 2D designs on white paper by layering up larger papercut layers, so this brief allowed me to go out of my comfort zone and experiment using the tools sent by Excel. I added colour and layered up smaller pieces to make 3D botanical forms like butterflies, bees and plants. By creating multiple papercuts of the same form, I experimented with placing them in different patterns and eventually made a beautiful botanical mandala.
What was the most challenging part of the brief?
It was so broad - I had so many different ideas of what I could do.
What part of the collaboration did you enjoy the most?
I loved creating a piece which allowed me to be so creative with no restrictions, so i could use a range of colours.
How did you enjoy working with Excel Blades, tools?
The straight point tweezers were SO useful - I don't actually know how i've gone this long without having some. They are an essential in my toolbox now! I used them to pick out the little tricky bits of paper, stick things down and even curve the paper round. Highly recommend this tool..
