Southern Ocean. High Tide
Tell us a little about your piece?
The Southern Ocean of Australia can be wild. I wanted this papercut to be a reflection of its majestic energy as well as serve as a reminder that rising sea levels are already eroding some of Australia’s coastline.
What was the most challenging part of the brief?
Interestingly, patterns in water created by the elements are repeated but also, they are quite variable. The most challenging task was understanding how water behaves and interpreting its nature in the papercut technique.
What part of the collaboration did you enjoy the most?
The collaboration has inspired me to begin a new series about the oceans. So far, I have enjoyed creating large and small papercuts like this to see what bearing size has on viewing these seascapes.
How did you enjoy working with Excel Blades, tools?
Sometimes cutting through a template and paper together can be difficult. The K18 Grip-on knife makes this task more comfortable. Their #11 blades are good for cutting small shapes.
